Summer Photo Sessions Are The Best, Here’s Why
Summer is the slower laid back time of year where we all have a little more time to hang out together, slow down and explore the city, sipping on lemonade and having fun at new parks and enjoying outdoor activities.
And, summer is their perfect time for your family photo session. And, I’m going to give you 5 reasons why you should consider a summer family photo shoot this year!
1. Slower summer schedule
Now, I know that this is not true for all families…but for many summer schedules are less hectic than during the school year. This slightly slower pace of life lends itself to having a bit more time to plan for your session, sort out wardrobe options, and enjoy the photo session outside the stressors of everyday life.
2. Beautiful light
We all know that feeling of a beautiful summer evening, and the warmth and contentment that one feels while enjoying those summer warm evenings. The beautiful light created in the summer creates lovely portraits and adds vibrancy and lovely color to the city and natural backdrops where many photo sessions take place. (I do tend to avoid sessions mid day during the summer when the sun creates really harsh and hard light that is less flattering in photos).
3. Warm weather
With the warm weather, many of us will have naturally sun kissed skin which photographs quite well, and can decrease makeup needs for moms and grandmothers. Also, the warm weather just improves everyones moods, and lends itself naturally to enjoying quality family time together exploring an urban neighborhood or local park. Also, we can incorporate some water fun like sprinklers or even a water balloon toss when we have warm weather, which always leads to happy natural photos.
4. Summer vibes
The summer vibes have a natural positive correlation to happy and joy filled photos. The warm sun peeking through the trees, and the fun movement of hair blowing in the breeze all help a viewer when looking at photos to feel that positive sense of summer fun, and as subjects in the photos, you will experience those feelings as well.
5. No need for layers
And, one of the best benefits of summer photo sessions is that there is no need for a ton of layers to stay warm. No need to worry about jackets, hats, tights, and scarves to keep everyone happy during the photo session. You can wear casual sandals, or even go barefoot…a simple summer dress, shorts (just avoid sport shorts), and a nice t-shirt or button down and you are all set!
