Benefits of Early Fall Family Photos

With the back to school rush, settling into the school year routines, and adding sport schedules to the mix, it can be a challenge to also get your fall family photos done. But, I would encourage you to consider having your family photos done early in the fall.

Here are six benefits of early fall family photos:

Lower chance of rain/weather rescheduling needs

As the fall progresses (particularly here in the pacific northwest) there is an increased chance that weather will cause a delay or need to reschedule your photo session. By planning your fall family photos early you decrease the risk of needing to reschedule due to weather or illness.

Early receipt of photos

When you have your family photos done early in the fall, you will have your photos back in time to order holiday cards with the black Friday deals that are common after Thanksgiving. And, you don’t risk the chance of a delay due to the busy photography season when you are early in the cue to receive your edited photos from your photographer.

Time to create gifts

By getting your family photos done early in the fall, you will have lots of time to create photo books, and purchase holiday gifts for grandparents. Some of my favorite gifts to give each year are personalized calendars filled with beautiful photos…and nothing is worse than having to rush the order for holiday delivery. You will be able to rest assured that those holiday gifts will arrive in plenty of time when you have your family photos done early in the fall.

The summer glow

When you have your photos done early in the fall, your family will still have the summer sun kissed healthy skin glow that looks lovely in photos. This naturally lends itself to flattering images, and less of a need for makeup as well.

Less layers required

As we move into the cooler seasons, we start to think about layers, jackets, sweaters, and even hats for photo sessions. When you have your photo session in the early fall, there is less of a need to worry about layers. You can even still wear fun sandals and summer sun dresses as well (weather permitting of course).

Home decor color trends

The colors of late summer and early fall may match your home decor more than the colors of fall foliage. This can be an important element to consider when hiring your photographer and planning the time of year and location for your session. Think about what colors you use in your home to decorate, and consider what season best aligns with those colors.
