Oregon Tulip Photo Mini Sessions; A perfect spring tradition with your family

Spring in Portland is such an amazing time, and one favorite event within my own family in the spring is the tulip festival. There are various locations and farms with tulip extravaganza’s, and close to Portland I love to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival which lasts from mid March through April annually.

Tulip Field Mini Sessions

My ‘Tulip Field Mini Sessions’ are a hit each year. This is a rain or shine event that is color filled and always exciting.

Rain Or Shine, Tulips Are Beautiful

Even in the rain the tulips are beautiful. Because this is a ‘mini session’, the time that we spend together is shorter than my full family sessions, and the tulips have a very specific window of time, we head out to the field rain or shine. And, think of all the rain accessories you could have, like colorful boots and a cute umbrella if needed. Also, because these sessions are shorter, we can all manage the chance that it may rain…and there are indoor and covered areas to duck into if needed.

Who Can Be In Tulip Photos

Tulip mini sessions are best for smaller sized families and individual children.

Children of all ages can be included in photos, but infants between birth - 3 months may be harder to photograph here. If your family includes a young infant, contact me and we can chat about what you are envisioning for your photos. When kids are old enough to stand (even if holding parents hands) we can create very lovely portraits with the tulips as well…and six month old babies can be held for beautiful images.

Dogs are permitted at the tulip festival if they are “kind and well behaved around other people and dogs” per the Wooden Tulip Farm Festival Website FAQs.

If you’d like a session at the tulip field with your extended family, lets chat about holding an extended family session at the tulips, outside of the mini session event.

How To Prepare For Tulip Sessions

Tickets to the tulip field must be pre-purchased by each family prior to the event, and coincide with your photo session time. So, after booking your photo session, head over to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm Page to purchase your tulip festival tickets.

Then, when preparing for the day, think about bringing rain jackets, and waterproof boots. The weather in the spring can change quickly so having items for alternate weather situations in the car can help. Also, if it has been raining the fields are often muddy, so rain boots (such as Hunters) are a great choice as they are fun and colorful, plus will keep your socks clean and dry!

What to wear for tulip sessions

Having color in your outfits can be really fun for tulip photos. I love having my daughters in layers like colorful dresses with boots and jean jackets. You can also think about if you have a favorite color in your home that you want to use in decorating your home or child’s bedroom. We can chat about how to use that color tulip in your photos, and what color clothes would work best with that tulip color. I love to use the color wheel to plan my kids clothes for our tulip field adventures. Colors that are complimentary (Across from each other on the color wheel) make for striking photographs.

Spots Are Limited

This is an exclusive and limited event, so be sure you are on my newsletter list to receive priority notification when the booking calendar is available. And, if you are interested in tulip photos this year, feel free to shoot me an email as well (rebecca@hunnicuttphotography.com).
