Children’s Photography For The Gold Hope Project
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and I wanted to highlight a special organization that supports families across the United States who have a child with cancer, The Gold Hope Project.
The mission of The Gold Hope Project is to educate communities about pediatric cancer and to raise awareness of the disease, to provide free photo sessions for any pediatric cancer patient at any stage of treatment, remission, or survivorship, and to fund innovative research.
I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to meet and photograph a new family each year in the Portland area whose child was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. My most recent session was with Bonnie. You can read more about her diagnosis and treatment over on The Gold Hope Project Blog.
For her session, we decided to meet at their home and have a truly relaxed photo session where we walked together to their neighborhood park, played amongst the beautiful flowers, and even met their family cat! It was so lovely to explore a new Portland neighborhood and to celebrate this lovely family. Bonnie was the sweetest to hang out with, and she was SO excited to show me the beautiful flowers at her circle park.
Families can apply for sessions directly on The Gold Hope Project website, or by contacting their hospital social worker for details. If you or someone you know is a healthcare provider for children with cancer, please feel free to share details of The Gold Hope Project with your oncology teams.
If you are a family or children’s photographer, I encourage you to contact The Gold Hope Project to join as a volunteer photographer. You will find these sessions to be some of the most rewarding sessions you will ever do.
And, if you are moved by these sweet children featured by The Gold Hope Project, I encourage you to checkout their services and donate during this month of Childhood Cancer Awareness.
