Family Photo Sessions At Your Home Can Be Inside, Outside, or Both!

Have you wondered if an at home lifestyle family photo session is right for your family? Thought about where to take the photos, and what would work out best? Think it’s easier to just head to a local park?

I’d like to share some benefits of having your photo session at home, and discuss some of the best spots for your at home session to occur.

It’s Easy To Include Pets

When you have your Portland Oregon area family session at home it’s super easy to include your pets! This can be cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, bunny’s, birds, even fish! When we hold the session at home the pets feel safe, we can include them in a few images, and then easily and safely do images without your pets as you know that they are in a safe spot in your home. No chance of them running off, or causing a distraction or causing any frustration when you are home with your pets.

You Can Tell The Story Of Your Family With Location Selection

Kitchen

Do you spend SO much time in your kitchen, hanging out, cooking together, discussing the kids days at school, and enjoying your morning coffee and tea? I know we spend the most time in our kitchen, and it’s a place to celebrate and include in your photos if it helps to tell your story. We can even capture you making your favorite recipe’s together! Making cookies is a perfect example of a perfect activity to do during a family session.

Front Walkway

The front of your home is an iconic spot, and perfect for showcasing a family portrait to share on holiday cards, particularly when you’ve just moved into your home, or recently remodeled.

Look For The Light

When I arrive at your home for your session, I’ll do a quick tour to look for unique compositions and beautiful light. This window seat provided a unique spot for an environmental portrait.

Kids Bedrooms Are Their Sanctuary

Kids hide their journals, whisper secrets to their stuffies, chat with their friends online, and go into new imaginative worlds while reading all in the safety of their bedroom. Did they spend hours selecting the perfect for them wall color and bedspread, just to want to change it a month later (cue my eye-roll when this conversation occurs at my house)? Well, capturing photos of your kids in their bedrooms during your at home photo session is a great way for you to say that you see them, and value their unique self.

Favorite Activities

I also ask clients to think about some of their favorite activities that they do at home, such as cuddling and reading together on the couch! We can create storytelling images and portraits in the same fun spots.

Enjoying The Backyard

If hanging out in your backyard is a favorite family activity, then its definitely one to incorporate into your at home session to tell your families story! Playing in your tree fort, jumping on the trampoline, and climbing trees are just a few ways that we can celebrate your time together in your backyard.

Home As A Backdrop For Portraits

I’ll even utilize portions of your home, such as a brick wall or simple siding as a neutral backdrop for some portraits.
